There are many different technologies out there to make your site stand out but the only way to experience these new technologies is for your visitors to be running the latest browsers with the latest plug-ins.

HTML:

The foundation of a website is the brick and mortar of every website out there you can still find a few sites build purely in html and they are the most compatible of all on all browsers.

FLASH:

Yes you do need html and JavaScript to display flash properly on a website, a technology for animation that was quickly adopted to make really exciting interactive websites but in order for visitors to see your site on their browser they will need to download and install a plug-in.
Flash files also need to be properly embedded in your html code using JavaScript otherwise your site, video, gallery will not display properly or it will not display at all.

JavaScript:

Yes a great technology a little more browser friendly but still not fully adopted and if your visitors somehow have JavaScript disable then certain functions that rely on JavaScript will not work. JavaScript is mainly use for interactivity, animation and effects.

If you have a browser that supports JavaScript or that is enable then you're looking at JavaScript in action every time you click on the tabs and see panels open and close.

PHP:

A great technology that brings dynamic content to your site with the use of a database, this is all provided by your hosting service. PHP plays a big part in today's CMS ( Content Management Systems ) which helps you update your site at the click of a button without the knowledge of html just fill out a form and you're done, update, change or upload a picture at any time.

 

Search engines are your best friends when it comes to marketing and bringing in visitors to your site. Flash and JavaScript are not the friendliest technologies for search engines, so if your site is built entirely on any of these technologies search engines are not indexing your site correctly.
